Dave’s Weekly Market Update for 03/28/25
Valuable insights on the latest market price changes for eggs, butter, cheese, and cream products.
Eggs:
The eggs finally stopped dropping on Tuesday. There is a small drop for the week, and I would guess that with Easter and Passover coming shortly that the markets might edge up somewhat over the next few weeks. Hopefully it will be a reasonable increase.
Butter:
Butter rose in a fairly active week of trading. I would like to guess that it is due to the upcoming holiday baking season. Cream has been plentiful and at low multiples, so manufacturers have been building inventories for the 4th quarter. I do not expect much of an increase as the futures markets do not reflect that.
Cheese:
Cheese rallied a little this week on both sides, but we were able to lower pricing. Due to changes being put in place with the milk marketing board, the Barrel market will go away as a pricing mechanism in June. Producers presently pay for milk based on the Barrel market and it was not always equitable for producers of Block related items.
Cream:
Fluid cream is dropping for April and this week there is a slight decrease in cream cheese. With this week’s increase in butter, cream cheese may go up slightly in the next week or so.
